Collagen Mix - 8 Bioactive Nutrients
Collagen Mix - 8 Bioactive Nutrients

Essential to our well-being, the musculoskeletal and skin systems (muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, cartilage, skin…) undergo changes over time, becoming more fragile. This makes them more susceptible to various chronic diseases and physical complications.

A Unique Combination of Bioactive Ingredients for Bone and Joint Health: Collagen Mix

In response to many age-related health complications, Solage Laboratories have created a unique product combining several patented, natural, and highly bioavailable active ingredients.

The 8 Natural Bioactive Ingredients in Collagen Mix

Marine Collagen Peptides (Type 1 Collagen)

Collagen makes up 30% of the proteins in the human body. With age, our body's collagen production slows down. Depending on lifestyle, this production can decrease rapidly and signs of collagen deficiency can appear.

Why use marine collagen peptides in Collagen Mix? Marine collagen is the best natural source of collagen, 1.5 times faster to absorb than beef or pork collagen. Additionally, peptides are known for their small size and low molecular weight, further enhancing bioavailability.

To be effective, a peptide must weigh less than 5000 Da (Dalton). The collagen in Collagen Mix, a patented extract made in France, weighs 3000 Da, making it perfectly absorbable.

In terms of benefits, marine collagen has a wide range of actions supporting both skin and bone health. Studies indicate that it is effective for wound healing, anti-aging, and bone regeneration (1). Marine collagen may also improve skin elasticity and reduce wrinkles (2).

Magnesium Citrate

Magnesium citrate, combining magnesium with citric acid, belongs to the family of organic magnesium salts. The citric acid is directly extracted from a citrus fruit (lemon, orange, grapefruit…), making it natural and enhancing magnesium absorption by the body.

Why use magnesium citrate in Collagen Mix? As an alkaline formula, magnesium citrate improves magnesium bioavailability. Compared to other forms, it is better tolerated by the human body, making it highly absorbable.

Magnesium is a valuable asset to the body, supporting muscles, bone growth (3), emotional balance, and reducing fatigue. It also influences vitamin D, optimizing its status in the body, increasing it in deficient individuals and decreasing it in those with high levels (4), a crucial factor for calcium fixation on bones.

Hyaluronic Acid

A glycosaminoglycan polysaccharide naturally found in the body, hyaluronic acid is a potent hydrating molecule. Formed by combining uronate and aminoglycan, it is one of the body's most powerful hydrating substances.

Hyaluronic acid’s great strength lies in its hydrating power, allowing it to retain water in skin cells, providing all-day hydration. Its elastic properties and water richness fill spaces between cells and skin, regenerating it and providing a smooth and radiant look.

Why use hyaluronic acid in Collagen Mix? Production declines by 6% every decade, leading to wrinkles, sagging, and skin dehydration (5). By age 50, half of the body’s hyaluronic acid has disappeared, so supplementing naturally is beneficial.

A nutraceutical intake of pure hyaluronic acid over time can help the body reduce skin wrinkles (6) and alleviate joint pain (7). Hyaluronic acid could also, according to studies, reduce vaginal dryness (8) and promote wound healing (9).

Note that sodium hyaluronate is better absorbed, so we use this form in our Collagen Mix.

Organic Silicon

A trace element, silicon exists in the body in 7 grams and is part of connective tissues and organs (skin, muscles, bones, cartilage, etc.). In fact, silicon is more prevalent than iron and copper in the body.

Organic silicon is widely used in cosmetics due to its firming, restorative, and anti-wrinkle properties, typically sourced from plant or marine extracts. In Collagen Mix, the silicon is plant-derived.

Why use organic silicon in Collagen Mix? Organic silicon aids in collagen production, crucial for a product centered around this protein. Additionally, as the body gradually loses silicon, it impacts collagen formation. Therefore, supplementing with organic silicon helps support collagen synthesis.

To maximize the effects of silicon and ensure high bioavailability, the liquid form is common, but a patented powdered form with superior absorption (10) is used in Collagen Mix.

Scientific studies suggest silicon can benefit bones and connective tissues due to its role in collagen synthesis and/or stabilization during mineralization (11). Silicon in nutritional amounts may reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s, improve skin, hair, and nail condition.

Vitamin C

Found in fruits and vegetables (especially citrus), vitamin C is a unique, water-soluble vitamin that cannot be stored, eliminating naturally through urine. Thus, it must be replenished daily through a mindful diet.

Why use vitamin C in Collagen Mix? An essential cofactor for collagen synthesis (12), vitamin C is crucial in nutraceuticals. Additionally, vitamin C is vital for immunity, effective against respiratory infections. It regenerates with vitamin E, a protective vitamin against free radicals, counteracting skin aging and wrinkles.

In Collagen Mix, vitamin C acts as a precursor and support, crucial for a product of this quality.

Vitamin K2-MK7 and Vitamin D3

Vitamin K2, also known as menaquinone, is a fat-soluble vitamin that aids in soft tissue calcification. Although less popular, it is essential, synthesized by gut microbiota and found in our diet (liver, egg yolks, meat, fish).

Collagen Mix includes menaquinone-7 (MK-7), a form of K2 that is more effective and non-toxic (13). It also enhances osteocalcin secretion (14), a protein that supports skeletal growth through bone matrix synthesis and mineralization.

Vitamin D3, or cholecalciferol, is a fat-soluble vitamin essential for calcification by ensuring calcium absorption in the intestine. It can be synthesized in the skin via UV exposure or through diet (oysters, cod liver oil, fatty fish).

Why use vitamin K2-MK7 and D3 in Collagen Mix? The synergy of D3 and K2 promotes bone health (15). Vitamin D increases calcium absorption, while vitamin K2 ensures calcium is deposited in the right places (bones, teeth). This combination, along with magnesium, enhances bone density (16).

Calcium Carbonate

Also known as calcite or calcium salt, calcium carbonate is an inorganic compound and one of Earth’s most abundant minerals, comprising about 4% of the crust.

Why use calcium carbonate in Collagen Mix? Besides being alkaline for the body, calcium carbonate provides valuable calcium, passively enhancing absorption. As a nutraceutical, it supports bone and dental health. Combined with vitamin D (17), it significantly reduces the risk of joint disease, and also plays a role in blood coagulation (18) and muscle contraction (19).

Enhanced Scientific Analyses and Information on 5 Key Components of Collagen Mix:

Marine Collagen Peptides (Type 1 Collagen)

Aging is an inevitable biological phenomenon caused by complex factors, both genetically and environmentally programmed. In the skin, aging manifests as a gradual decrease in collagen and elastin levels, which are essential for skin health (maintenance, firmness, and elasticity).

As these proteins diminish, skin becomes rigid, loses its elastic capacity, and fine lines and wrinkles appear. While it’s impossible to fully stop skin aging, it can be slowed down and effectively supported with regular intake of nutraceutical marine collagen. (20)

To illustrate and validate these points, numerous studies have been conducted over time to demonstrate the effectiveness of marine collagen peptides. Here are a few:

  • In a 2019 study published in Biosci Biotechnol Biochimie, scientists aimed to demonstrate the effects of daily collagen peptide intake on skin damage. Specifically, regular intake of collagen peptides (0.2 g/kg/day) was expected to counter reduced skin hydration, epidermal hyperplasia, and decreased Type I collagen. After several weeks, results suggested collagen peptides are beneficial as a dietary supplement for reducing UV-B-induced skin damage and photoaging. (21)
  • A 2014 review, also published in Biosci Biotechnol Biochimie, examined the relationship between collagen peptides and vitamin C and their combined effects on skin health. It was shown that age-related skin degradation is correlated with decreased collagen levels. The study suggested that the CP (Collagen Peptide) and VC (Vitamin C) combination is effective for age-related skin pathology. (22)
  • An October 2021 systematic review investigated the "effects of collagen peptide supplementation on body composition, collagen synthesis, and recovery after joint injuries and exercise." From 856 articles, around 15 randomized controlled trials were selected. The results indicated that COL (collagen peptides) is most beneficial for improving joint functionality and reducing joint pain. Additional benefits included enhanced joint strength, more stable body composition, and better muscle recovery. High collagen synthesis rates were observed with 15 g/day of COL, though it had no significant impact on muscle protein synthesis compared to other quality protein sources. (23)

Magnesium Citrate

Magnesium citrate offers superior solubility and bioavailability over other magnesium combinations (24), promoting an active relationship between the body and magnesium.

To validate this high bioavailability, several studies were conducted, including a 1990 clinical trial comparing magnesium citrate and magnesium oxide. Magnesium absorption from the two magnesium salts was measured in vivo among healthy volunteers by evaluating the increase in urinary magnesium post-oral intake. Urinary magnesium levels after a 25 mmol magnesium citrate load were significantly higher than from magnesium oxide (for the first 4 hours, 0.22 vs. 0.006 mg/mg creatinine, p < 0.05; for the next 2 hours, 0.035 vs. 0.008 mg/mg creatinine, p < 0.05).

Magnesium is essential for numerous physiological functions, but deficiencies are common due to reduced magnesium nutrient content in food. Overcooking, illness, drugs, alcohol, and caffeine consumption can further diminish magnesium levels.

Therefore, supplementing with magnesium, especially magnesium citrate, increases the chances of truly absorbing and utilizing this nutrient and its active principles. A 2019 study (26) indicated that magnesium citrate helps increase magnesium levels in muscles and the brain.

Hyaluronic Acid

A key component of the skin's extracellular matrix involved in various wound-healing mechanisms, hyaluronic acid is invaluable for the human body. Present in connective tissue, cartilage, joints, skin, and eyes, it gradually decreases over time.

Its numerous benefits for the body have been demonstrated in various studies:

  • Wound Healing (27): Wound healing generally involves three key phases: inflammatory, proliferative, and remodeling. HA assists at each stage, promoting stable, fast, and optimal healing.
  • Inflammatory Skin and Joint Diseases (28): An in-depth analysis showed that HA-based formulations effectively treat a wide range of inflammatory skin conditions. Patients treated with hyaluronic acid benefited from improved chondrocyte density, enhanced matrix appearance, cartilage surface layer reconstitution, collagen remodeling, and meniscus regeneration. The study concluded, "We validate HA application as a promising pharmacotherapeutic approach for inflammatory skin and joint diseases."
  • Skin Rejuvenation and Anti-Aging (29): With multiple roles in the body, hyaluronic acid was studied in a 2018 review. After thorough analysis, scientists reported promising efficacy in skin tightening, elasticity, facial rejuvenation, improved aesthetic scores, wrinkle reduction, and longevity.

Organic Silicon

Organic silicon is well-known for supporting connective tissue health, as evidenced by a 2016 study highlighting its benefits for skin and hair care. (30)

In another study from 2017, Piet Geusens and his team demonstrated the positive impact of this trace element on joint diseases. A multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled study involving 211 patients with knee joint disease and moderate to severe pain showed efficacy in reducing knee joint symptoms after 12 weeks, with a slight but significant reduction in cartilage degradation biomarkers.

Finally, a 2005 study showed that oral organic silicon intake positively impacts nail, hair, and sun-damaged skin quality. Conducted as a double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized trial with 50 women with photodamaged facial skin, participants received 10 mg of Si/day for 20 weeks, leading to significantly improved nail and hair strength in the non-placebo group, demonstrating silicon's reliability.

Calcium Carbonate

A chemical compound with the formula CaCO3, calcium carbonate consists of carbon, oxygen, and calcium. It is ubiquitous on Earth, found in shells of marine organisms, snails, charcoal balls, pearls, and eggshells. (33)

This inorganic salt serves as a calcium supplement, antacid, and phosphate binder, being the second most abundant mineral in the human body after magnesium. Calcium carbonate is particularly useful for combating bone diseases that lower serum calcium levels. (34)

This calcium benefit was demonstrated in a 2022 study analyzing the effects of calcium carbonate preparations on malnutrition in preschool children. The study involved 100 malnourished preschool children treated at a hospital from February 2020 to February 2021. Results included bone content, malnutrition symptom scores, nutritional indices, urinary calcium, patient progress, and treatment satisfaction.

The study noted that “after treatment, the calcium carbonate group exhibited higher bone content and bone density in the right heel compared to the calcium lactate group (P < 0.05).”

FAQ
FAQ (questions fréquentes)

- Most of our nutrients come from France or Europe (local is a priority), except when we can't do otherwise (for curcuma, for example). We never choose ingredients from places or countries where quality is not assured and workers are poorly paid.

- Solage products are designed in France and manufactured according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards from the pharmaceutical industry and the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) method, developed by NASA.

Both methods implement procedures, documents and controls to guarantee perfect traceability and the absence of biological or chemical contamination.

- Solage is a French company, and its products are registered with the relevant authorities.

Solage products are safe, with no bad surprises.

To answer this question, we distinguish between three types of product, depending on their nature and intended purpose:

1/ Ideally taken as a continuous treatment: those which compensate for a nutritional or age-related deficiency, and which serve to restore the body's functions without altering its normal metabolism.

- Common nutritional deficiencies: marine omega-3, vitamin C, magnesium, vitamin D between October and May

- Age-related or pathological deficiencies: Ubiquinol, Glutathione, Iron, Collagen (type I and II)

- To help the body deal with underlying problems: Saffron, Ashwagandha, Men's and women's urinary comfort, cholesterol

2/ To be taken in a cure, but where a break is not necessarily necessary if you or your healthcare professional find it useful:

Detox: Milk thistle, Glutathione

Digestion: Probiotics

3/ Products where a break is useful:

- Curcumin: at least a break of a few days between each box, as it modifies metabolic pathways in the body

- Echinacea (immunity): a break of a few days between each box so as not to over-stimulate the immune system

- Melatonin: avoid taking it every day over the long term, so as not to habituate the body.

In all cases, it's important to remember that the products we offer are genuinely active, that it's important to respect dosage and that they are not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.

This will of course depend on the product and your physiological state.

It's worth remembering that physiology is a long-term process, and that it generally takes two to three months, sometimes longer, to achieve a profound change.

However, the feeling is generally quicker, between 15 days and two months. It is then necessary to continue to try to fix these initial results in greater depth.

However, this will be much quicker with subsequent products:

- Melatonin and sublingual GABA, which have a very rapid onset of action (between two minutes and 30 minutes)

- Probiotics (48 hours to two weeks))

Please refer to the “Scientific studies” section of this product page, where you'll find most studies on bioavailability and medium-term effects.
