Liposomes: The Technology That Enhances Iron Assimilation and Bioavailability

Iron liposomes are small spheres made of phospholipids that encapsulate one or more active ingredients (iron + vitamin E).

These spheres are designed to ensure efficient passage through the intestinal barrier without causing digestive issues such as constipation, diarrhea, or bloating.

Additionally, liposomal iron offers absorption rates up to 9 times higher than traditional iron bisglycinate tablets or capsules (even with added vitamin C) and nearly 390 times higher than ferric saccharate.

Maximum absorption, high bioavailability, without side effects!

The Many Roles of Iron in the Body: Why is it So Important?

Iron’s Benefits: Oxygenation and Red Blood Cell Formation

Iron has numerous properties. As a key component of hemoglobin, it plays a crucial role in the formation of red blood cells and the transport of oxygen throughout the body. About two-thirds of the body’s iron is found in hemoglobin, the pigment in red blood cells that facilitates oxygen transfer between the lungs and various cells.

And Other Benefits...

Iron also supports normal cognitive function, immune health, energy metabolism, and cell division.

Where Else Can Iron Be Found?

The remaining iron is stored in ferritin, a protein found in skeletal muscles, liver, spleen, and bone marrow. Iron is also present in myoglobin, a red pigment similar to hemoglobin that stores oxygen in muscle cells.

Iron requirements are defined by Recommended Nutrient Intakes (RNI), which often increase during pregnancy (27-30 mg), breastfeeding (9-10 mg), menstruation (18-20 mg), for athletes (8-11 mg for men and 18-20 mg for women), and during growth (11-15 mg for adolescents). These factors all contribute to daily intake needs.

Vitamin E and Iron: Two Essential Nutrients

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. It also supports immune function, heart health, and reproductive health.

Within liposomal iron, vitamin E provides:

  • Enhanced iron absorption. Studies show that taking vitamin E with iron increases iron absorption by up to 40%.
  • Not surprisingly, vitamin E protects iron from oxidation. Free radicals can damage iron, making it less absorbable and more likely to cause side effects.

Why Choose Liposomal Iron from Solage Laboratory?

  • Enhanced Bioavailability: Liposomal Iron is up to 398 times more bioavailable than traditional iron forms and nine times more than those combined with vitamin C. This means that less iron is needed to achieve the same results.
  • Reduced Gastrointestinal Side Effects: Liposomal Iron is less likely to cause digestive issues, such as nausea, constipation, or vomiting, which are common with other iron forms.
  • Facilitated Absorption: Liposomes protect iron from oxidation caused by digestive enzymes, allowing it to be absorbed more efficiently.
  • Liposomes transport iron directly to cells, aiding its distribution throughout the body.
  • Contains Phospholipids, molecules composed of two fatty acids (glycerol and phosphate). Abundant in the body’s cells, phospholipids play a vital role in cell membrane structure and function. In supplementation, phospholipids are used to improve iron absorption.

Comparative Study on the Bioavailability of Iron Supplementation

Method

To compare the bioavailability of Solage's liquid liposomal iron with other non-liposomal iron supplements, a randomized study was conducted.

The study included 3 groups of participants randomly assigned. All participants were in normal physical condition and did not take any medication or supplements.

The group distribution was as follows:

- The first group received 5 mL, equivalent to 14 mg of Solage's liquid liposomal iron.

- The second group received a 14 mg tablet of ferric saccharate.

- The third group received a tablet containing 40 mg of iron bisglycinate + 40 mg of vitamin C.

Blood samples were taken at the time of oral supplement administration and then every 2 hours, up to 12 hours after the initial dose. Ferritin levels were analyzed for each sample.

Two values were measured:

- The maximum concentration reached, or Cmax (ng/mL)

- The time needed to reach this maximum concentration, or Tmax (hours).

Based on this raw data, we then calculated the area under the curve (AUC) and oral bioavailability using iAUC.

Results

- The group that received 14 mg of liquid liposomal iron reached the highest ferritin concentration in serum, with a Cmax of 111.4 ng/mL.

- The liposomal group also achieved the highest AUC and iAUC values, indicating very high bioavailability.

- Liquid liposomal iron is approximately 398 times more bioavailable than an equivalent dose (14 mg) of ferric saccharate iron supplementation.

- Liquid liposomal iron is approximately 9 times more bioavailable than a high dose (40 mg) of iron bisglycinate, enhanced by 40 mg of vitamin C.

Cmax (ng/mL) 111.4 27.3 34.4
Tmax (hours) 12 2 12
AUC (ng * hr/mL) 672.5 289.4 330
iAUC (ng * hr/mL) 397.7 1 44.4

Conclusion of the Liposomal Iron Bioavailability Study

- Solage's liposomal iron not only offers better iron absorption but also maintains increased ferritin levels in the blood over the entire 12-hour period.

- Solage's liposomal iron achieves far superior absorption compared to any other form of iron supplement, even in high doses.

- Adding Vitamin C appears unnecessary for further enhancing iron absorption with liquid liposome technology.

Solage's liposomal iron is thus a better-absorbed iron supplementation alternative, without the need for added Vitamin C.

FAQ
FAQ (questions fréquentes)

- Most of our nutrients come from France or Europe (local is a priority), except when we can't do otherwise (for curcuma, for example). We never choose ingredients from places or countries where quality is not assured and workers are poorly paid.

- Solage products are designed in France and manufactured according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards from the pharmaceutical industry and the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) method, developed by NASA.

Both methods implement procedures, documents and controls to guarantee perfect traceability and the absence of biological or chemical contamination.

- Solage is a French company, and its products are registered with the relevant authorities.

Solage products are safe, with no bad surprises.

To answer this question, we distinguish between three types of product, depending on their nature and intended purpose:

1/ Ideally taken as a continuous treatment: those which compensate for a nutritional or age-related deficiency, and which serve to restore the body's functions without altering its normal metabolism.

- Common nutritional deficiencies: marine omega-3, vitamin C, magnesium, vitamin D between October and May

- Age-related or pathological deficiencies: Ubiquinol, Glutathione, Iron, Collagen (type I and II)

- To help the body deal with underlying problems: Saffron, Ashwagandha, Men's and women's urinary comfort, cholesterol

2/ To be taken in a cure, but where a break is not necessarily necessary if you or your healthcare professional find it useful:

Detox: Milk thistle, Glutathione

Digestion: Probiotics

3/ Products where a break is useful:

- Curcumin: at least a break of a few days between each box, as it modifies metabolic pathways in the body

- Echinacea (immunity): a break of a few days between each box so as not to over-stimulate the immune system

- Melatonin: avoid taking it every day over the long term, so as not to habituate the body.

In all cases, it's important to remember that the products we offer are genuinely active, that it's important to respect dosage and that they are not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.

This will of course depend on the product and your physiological state.

It's worth remembering that physiology is a long-term process, and that it generally takes two to three months, sometimes longer, to achieve a profound change.

However, the feeling is generally quicker, between 15 days and two months. It is then necessary to continue to try to fix these initial results in greater depth.

However, this will be much quicker with subsequent products:

- Melatonin and sublingual GABA, which have a very rapid onset of action (between two minutes and 30 minutes)

- Probiotics (48 hours to two weeks))
