Glutathione: A Powerful Antioxidant with Numerous Benefits

Glutathione is a tripeptide (cysteine, glycine, and glutamic acid) found in surprisingly high concentrations – 5 millimoles – in most cells.

It shares the same cellular concentration as glucose, potassium, and cholesterol, highlighting its essential role!

Glutathione as a Marker of Cellular Health

In cells, glutathione exists in two forms: an oxidized form (GSSG) and a reduced form (GSH).

The GSH/GSSG ratio (the amount of reduced glutathione compared to oxidized glutathione within a cell) is used to measure the oxidative health of a cell.

In healthy cells, the GSH/GSSG ratio is above 100, but it drops to a ratio of 1/10 in cells exposed to oxidative stress.

The Multiple Roles of Glutathione in the Body

Although lesser-known, the benefits of glutathione are crucial for vital functions, helping us maintain health and eliminate toxins:

  • Direct neutralization of free radicals (singlet oxygen, hydroxyl radicals, superoxide radicals),

  • Cofactor for several antioxidant enzymes,

  • Regeneration of vitamins C and E,

  • Neutralizes free radicals produced during the metabolism of chemical toxins in the liver,

  • Essential for one of the liver reactions that makes chemical toxins water-soluble, allowing them to be excreted by the kidneys,

  • Transports mercury out of cells and the brain,

  • Regulates cell multiplication and programmed cell death (apoptosis) in aging cells,

  • Vital for proper mitochondrial function and the maintenance of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA).

Why Supplement with Glutathione?

As we age, our body's production of glutathione decreases.

This production can also decline earlier due to oxidative stress, chemical toxins, and heavy metals.

Unfortunately, even with a healthy lifestyle, we are constantly exposed to pollutants in food, water, and air.

Reduced Liposomal Glutathione, Enhanced with Liposomal Vitamin C: The Solution for Lasting Blood Glutathione Levels

Oral reduced glutathione (GSH), without liposomal technology, is poorly absorbed due to the action of an intestinal enzyme, γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), which degrades GSH.

As a result, oral GSH supplementation, even at 500 mg per day, barely changes plasma levels; effective glutathione treatments to date have primarily used intravenous administration.

The power of liposomes lies in their ability to completely protect GSH from this enzyme. A study on liposomal glutathione showed a threefold increase in blood glutathione levels in just seven days (see scientific studies).

The quality of liposomes is ensured, especially in liquid form: dry liposome capsules are actually dehydrated liquid liposomes; this freeze-drying process breaks the structure of liposomes, resulting in a fragile mix of phospholipids and glutathione in the digestive system.

Solage's reduced liposomal glutathione (GSH) formula provides a daily dose of 400 mg of GSH and 800 mg of liposomal vitamin C, ensuring true absorption.

Why Choose Our Reduced Glutathione (GSH) + Liquid Liposomal Vitamin C Formula Over Others?

1/ Our Glutathione is in its Reduced Form (GSH).

This is the form used by the body and, of course, the only one with antioxidant properties.

2/ Our Reduced Glutathione is Protected in the Intestine.

Glutathione must be protected from the intestine, especially from an enzyme called γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), which degrades Reduced Glutathione. An unprotected Reduced Glutathione supplement will be destroyed before it even crosses the intestinal barrier. We demonstrated in a study that even a high-dose GSH powder supplement (500mg/day) had no effect on blood concentration!

=> The best way to protect Reduced Glutathione and improve intestinal absorption is to use liposome technology. The GGT enzyme cannot affect the sunflower phospholipids that encase Reduced Glutathione.

3/ We Guarantee Intact, Active-Filled Liposomes!

Our Glutathione liposome formula is in liquid form, containing intact liposomes suspended in water, which allows them to retain their spherical shape, filled with Reduced Glutathione and Vitamin C.

In contrast, dry liposomes are actually dehydrated liquid formulas.

Unfortunately, removing water breaks down the liposome structure, leaving a mixture of phospholipids and active ingredients, which compromises both bioavailability and intestinal protection of the active ingredients.

NRV: Nutritional Reference Value

For 400 mg of reduced liposomal Glutathione and 800 mg of liposomal Vitamin C

10 mL per day, using the measuring cup, which is approximately two teaspoons, ideally in the morning before breakfast or lunch (on an empty stomach)

The dose can also be split, with 5 mL in the morning, 15 minutes before breakfast, and 5 mL in the evening, 15 minutes before dinner.

The reduced liposomal Glutathione can be taken pure or diluted in water or juice (avoid hot drinks).

It is recommended to shake the bottle before use, refrigerate after opening, and consume within two months (beyond that, it's not harmful, but the quality of liposomes may decrease).

Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant produced by the body's cells.

Its levels decrease due to aging, stress, and exposure to toxins

Our Liposomal Glutathione + Liposomal Vitamin C complex can be taken:

- as part of a deep detox / purification to help eliminate heavy metals, pollutants, and toxins from the body.

- in cases of increased demand (such as athletes and smokers),

- For preventative purposes given Glutathione's essential roles within our cells.

Raising the level of reduced glutathione within cells can bring numerous health benefits, including:

- Protection against free radicals and peroxides (oxidative stress)

- Delaying cellular aging and helping the body remove aging or defective cells. Glutathione is essential for cellular regulation (gene expression, DNA and protein synthesis, cell proliferation, and apoptosis),

- Enhancing the natural detoxification mechanisms to remove toxins, heavy metals, and chemicals from our body (water, food, medication),

- Maintaining good levels of Vitamin C and Vitamin E due to Glutathione's regenerative effect on these vitamins and the additional Liposomal Vitamin C included in the product,

- Supporting a healthy immune system,

- Maintaining healthy mitochondria: Glutathione is essential for proper mitochondrial function, especially in preserving mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) integrity.

Comparison of Bioavailability between Reduced Glutathione Capsules and Solage Liquid Liposomal Reduced Glutathione

The objective of this study was to compare the blood levels of reduced Glutathione between a standard reduced Glutathione supplement and Solage’s liquid liposomal reduced Glutathione.

Methodology of the Glutathione Bioavailability Study

In a randomized study of 20 participants (men and women) aged 20 to 50, two equal groups of men and women were created.

The first group received 500 mg of reduced Glutathione (GSH) in capsule form, while the second group received the same dose of 500 mg of liquid liposomal reduced Glutathione (Solage).

Blood samples were taken on an empty stomach on day 1 before supplement intake, then on day 3 and day 7.

The plasma was then analyzed for GSH concentration using liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.

Comparison of Liquid Liposomal vs Capsule Reduced Glutathione Bioavailability

Conclusion of the Bioavailability Comparison Study between Capsule and Liquid Liposomal Reduced Glutathione

Although the study is brief and includes a limited number of participants, it demonstrates that standard capsule supplementation of reduced Glutathione does not produce significant changes. This suggests that this form of supplementation may not be effective.

In contrast, daily supplementation with liquid liposomal reduced Glutathione led to an average 2.46-fold increase in blood levels of reduced Glutathione in just 7 days.

Therefore, we can conclude that liquid liposomal supplementation shows promise for increasing plasma (blood) concentration of reduced Glutathione, in addition to a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

FAQ
FAQ (questions fréquentes)

- Most of our nutrients come from France or Europe (local is a priority), except when we can't do otherwise (for curcuma, for example). We never choose ingredients from places or countries where quality is not assured and workers are poorly paid.

- Solage products are designed in France and manufactured according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards from the pharmaceutical industry and the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) method, developed by NASA.

Both methods implement procedures, documents and controls to guarantee perfect traceability and the absence of biological or chemical contamination.

- Solage is a French company, and its products are registered with the relevant authorities.

Solage products are safe, with no bad surprises.

To answer this question, we distinguish between three types of product, depending on their nature and intended purpose:

1/ Ideally taken as a continuous treatment: those which compensate for a nutritional or age-related deficiency, and which serve to restore the body's functions without altering its normal metabolism.

- Common nutritional deficiencies: marine omega-3, vitamin C, magnesium, vitamin D between October and May

- Age-related or pathological deficiencies: Ubiquinol, Glutathione, Iron, Collagen (type I and II)

- To help the body deal with underlying problems: Saffron, Ashwagandha, Men's and women's urinary comfort, cholesterol

2/ To be taken in a cure, but where a break is not necessarily necessary if you or your healthcare professional find it useful:

Detox: Milk thistle, Glutathione

Digestion: Probiotics

3/ Products where a break is useful:

- Curcumin: at least a break of a few days between each box, as it modifies metabolic pathways in the body

- Echinacea (immunity): a break of a few days between each box so as not to over-stimulate the immune system

- Melatonin: avoid taking it every day over the long term, so as not to habituate the body.

In all cases, it's important to remember that the products we offer are genuinely active, that it's important to respect dosage and that they are not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.

This will of course depend on the product and your physiological state.

It's worth remembering that physiology is a long-term process, and that it generally takes two to three months, sometimes longer, to achieve a profound change.

However, the feeling is generally quicker, between 15 days and two months. It is then necessary to continue to try to fix these initial results in greater depth.

However, this will be much quicker with subsequent products:

- Melatonin and sublingual GABA, which have a very rapid onset of action (between two minutes and 30 minutes)

- Probiotics (48 hours to two weeks))

Please refer to the “Scientific studies” section of this product page, where you'll find most studies on bioavailability and medium-term effects.
