Sublingual Melatonin - Solmeil
Sublingual Melatonin - Solmeil

Sublingual melatonin is 1.8 times more absorbable than in capsule form.

The exclusive SOLMEIL formula enables faster action and provides an accurate and precise dosage.

What is melatonin?

Where is melatonin produced in the brain?

Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) is a hormone produced directly by the pineal gland in the brain.

When light levels decrease, melatonin levels in our blood increase, promoting sleep.

The opposite is also true: when light levels rise or remain high, melatonin secretion stops.

This is why screens on computers and phones can harm sleep quality.

From a physiological perspective, as light decreases, the retina signals our biological clock (the suprachiasmatic nuclei) that evening is approaching.

Our biological clock then signals the pineal gland to increase melatonin levels.

What are sleep issues, and how can they be addressed?

Sleep issues encompass all factors that reduce one’s ability to sleep well consistently, often leading to social, work, or daily life difficulties.

Although there are medically approved solutions, they are far from satisfactory.

Benzodiazepines, antidepressants, antihistamines, and anxiolytics can lead to dependence. Additionally, these medications can gradually impair cognitive function.

Why can melatonin be helpful for falling asleep and for health?

Changes in melatonin concentration in the blood overnight

Melatonin is a natural hormone whose blood levels fluctuate throughout the night.

Melatonin supplementation is well-tolerated and has no long-term side effects.

Stopping Solmeil abruptly does not cause rebound insomnia (a resurgence of symptoms).

Melatonin helps to:

  • sync the circadian rhythm (wake and sleep cycle),
  • reduce the time it takes to fall asleep,
  • improve sleep quality.

Additionally, melatonin plays a central role in

  • anti-oxidation,
  • regulating and supporting neuron survival.

Why Choose Solmeil Over Other Melatonin Supplements?

Solmeil Provides Naturally-Derived, Easily Dosable Melatonin for a Response Similar to Our Body’s Own Production

The melatonin in Solmeil is easily absorbed through the buccal mucosa and simple to dose, allowing you to match your body’s natural melatonin levels without risks of side effects or dependency.

Just 5 drops under the tongue delivers the physiological dose of 0.5mg. You can increase the dose up to a maximum of 20 drops if needed.

Superior bioavailability of Solmeil's sublingual melatonin

Melatonin is metabolized quickly: with a single pass through the liver, 85% of an orally ingested dose (capsules or tablets) is eliminated from the body.

This means that only 15% of orally taken melatonin is bioavailable.

In liquid form, melatonin can be absorbed directly via the buccal mucosa.

In a comparative study, the total bioavailability of melatonin was 1.8 times higher with a liquid supplement than with a tablet.

In the adjacent chart, the bioavailability of melatonin after taking 5 mg in tablet form or as a liquid supplement (buccal spray) was measured.

After 5, 10, and 20 minutes, plasma melatonin levels were respectively 4.6, 3.5, and 3 times higher in individuals who took the liquid supplement compared to those who took the tablet.

Solmeil is Fortified with Vitamin B6 to Combat Fatigue and Boost Natural Melatonin Production

Solmeil is enhanced with Vitamin B6, which helps reduce fatigue, supports normal psychological functions such as focus and memory, and contributes to the proper functioning of the nervous and immune systems.

Vitamin B6 also boosts natural melatonin production as it acts as an essential cofactor for the enzyme 5HTP decarboxylase, which converts 5 HTP into serotonin. Serotonin is the precursor to melatonin.

Melatonin in Dry Capsule Form is Not Absorbable: 85% is Lost.

Melatonin in dry capsule form must be digested before passing through the intestinal barrier to reach the bloodstream.

This has three consequences:

  • 85% of the melatonin will not be absorbed and is directly excreted by the body,
  • Longer activation time, whereas sleep is typically desired quickly,

Capsule Melatonin Does Not Accurately Replicate Physiological Needs

  • Tendency to take larger doses to compensate for lower efficacy,
  • Inability to fine-tune dosage, resulting in either too little or potentially too much intake,

The physiological dose of melatonin naturally produced by the body is around 0.5mg.

It is therefore crucial to be able to fine-tune the dosage to avoid morning grogginess or lingering drowsiness.

50mL Bottle

Composition per 20 drops (Recommended maximum dose):

- Melatonin: 1.9 mg

- Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine HCL): 4.2 mg (300% RDI)

Up to a maximum of 20 drops per day, 30 minutes before bedtime.

If you take fewer than 20 drops at bedtime, you may take more if you wake up during the night.

Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

SOLMEIL is a dietary supplement and should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.

Store in a cool, dry place. Keep out of reach of children. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

This dietary supplement is not suitable for children under 12 years old.

Do not drive or operate machinery within 4 to 5 hours after taking it.

When to Use Solmeil?

• If you have trouble falling asleep quickly,

• For those who work night shifts or have irregular sleep schedules,

• To help fall asleep earlier in cases of delayed sleep phase syndrome,

• For nighttime insomnia,

• After experiencing jet lag or while traveling,

• To regulate the sleep-wake cycle, especially for those with visual impairments.

In general, Solmeil can be used for primary insomnia, meaning sleep disturbances that are not caused by or related to an underlying health condition.

Solmeil can also assist in cases of secondary insomnia (related to a health condition):

• Anxiety, medication use, post-surgery, or pain,

• For elderly individuals, including those with dementia or
Parkinson's disease.

Based on current knowledge, occasional use at the recommended dosage (a maximum of 1.9mg per day) poses no health risks and has no side effects.

There is no additional insomnia (rebound effect) when Solmeil use is stopped suddenly.

Additional Tips for Quality Sleep

• If insomnia is linked to low mood, Solmeil can be used along with Solafran to help restore restful sleep.

• For insomnia associated with chronic stress (frequent night awakenings, disrupted sleep), Solmeil can be used with Soltonic taken in the evening, which helps regulate stress hormones often responsible for these awakenings.

• Ensuring adequate magnesium levels is also essential for quality sleep. This need can be easily met with our high-absorption liposomal magnesium formula.

Benefits of Melatonin Use for Insomnia and Other Sleep Disorders

Influence of melatonin on sleep issues

Recent meta-analyses indicate that melatonin may positively impact not only insomnia but also other sleep disorders, such as REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) and delayed sleep phase disorder (DSPD).

The chart above provides an overview of studies focusing on individuals with primary insomnia.

Each study highlights a positive effect of melatonin supplementation.

Sleep problems are also common among shift workers who experience irregular day/night rhythms.

In a placebo-controlled study, shift workers reported improved sleep efficiency and reduced time to fall asleep after taking melatonin.

Melatonin is Also Effective for Jet Lag

Effectiveness of melatonin supplementation on jet lag symptoms

Melatonin (5 mg tablet) was studied for its effect on jet lag symptoms in 17 travelers flying from San Francisco to London (crossing 8 time zones).

Those who took melatonin (n = 8) reported minimal issues, while those on a placebo (n = 9) experienced more noticeable discomfort.

Benzodiazepines: Limited Benefits with a High Risk of Dependency

In France, 10% of men and over 15% of women use benzodiazepines for sleep.

This treatment may be helpful for acute situations but offers limited benefits, increasing sleep time by only 30 minutes to an hour and reducing the time to fall asleep by 5 to 15 minutes.

The effect is temporary, with efficacy decreasing after a week.

With chronic use, benzodiazepines lead to dependency.

Melatonin Intake Can Gradually Reduce Benzodiazepine Use

Reduction in benzodiazepine use with melatonin intake

Two studies (Study 1, n = 60; Study 2, n = 96) on patients with early Alzheimer’s disease (Mild Cognitive Impairment) showed that benzodiazepine use could be gradually reduced with melatonin supplementation (3-24 mg/day in tablet form).

Participants experienced improvements in cognitive function (memory), emotional well-being, and sleep patterns with melatonin, reducing their need for other "sleep aids."

Those not using melatonin more frequently requested a sleep aid, resulting in benzodiazepine prescriptions.

FAQ
FAQ (questions fréquentes)

- Most of our nutrients come from France or Europe (local is a priority), except when we can't do otherwise (for curcuma, for example). We never choose ingredients from places or countries where quality is not assured and workers are poorly paid.

- Solage products are designed in France and manufactured according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards from the pharmaceutical industry and the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) method, developed by NASA.

Both methods implement procedures, documents and controls to guarantee perfect traceability and the absence of biological or chemical contamination.

- Solage is a French company, and its products are registered with the relevant authorities.

Solage products are safe, with no bad surprises.

To answer this question, we distinguish between three types of product, depending on their nature and intended purpose:

1/ Ideally taken as a continuous treatment: those which compensate for a nutritional or age-related deficiency, and which serve to restore the body's functions without altering its normal metabolism.

- Common nutritional deficiencies: marine omega-3, vitamin C, magnesium, vitamin D between October and May

- Age-related or pathological deficiencies: Ubiquinol, Glutathione, Iron, Collagen (type I and II)

- To help the body deal with underlying problems: Saffron, Ashwagandha, Men's and women's urinary comfort, cholesterol

2/ To be taken in a cure, but where a break is not necessarily necessary if you or your healthcare professional find it useful:

Detox: Milk thistle, Glutathione

Digestion: Probiotics

3/ Products where a break is useful:

- Curcumin: at least a break of a few days between each box, as it modifies metabolic pathways in the body

- Echinacea (immunity): a break of a few days between each box so as not to over-stimulate the immune system

- Melatonin: avoid taking it every day over the long term, so as not to habituate the body.

In all cases, it's important to remember that the products we offer are genuinely active, that it's important to respect dosage and that they are not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.

This will of course depend on the product and your physiological state.

It's worth remembering that physiology is a long-term process, and that it generally takes two to three months, sometimes longer, to achieve a profound change.

However, the feeling is generally quicker, between 15 days and two months. It is then necessary to continue to try to fix these initial results in greater depth.

However, this will be much quicker with subsequent products:

- Melatonin and sublingual GABA, which have a very rapid onset of action (between two minutes and 30 minutes)

- Probiotics (48 hours to two weeks))
